How to read this. The average flock holds about 18 sheep, far smaller than a typical cattle herd. Seasonal swings in sheep numbers (lambing, slaughter) only show up across the monthly snapshots. A herd is one register herd number - a keeping location, not a farm and not an owner; keepers are not named. Counts are a snapshot of the register on 1 September 2026, not an annual average, published unchanged from ŽŪDC data.
