How to read this. The average herd holds about 32 cattle, but the average hides a wide spread between large dairy and beef operations and small keepers with a handful of animals. A herd is one register herd number - a keeping location, not a farm and not an owner; keepers are not named. Counts are a snapshot of the register on 1 September 2026, not an annual average, published unchanged from ŽŪDC data.
